About me
Welcome to my website. I am Bumsub Park, a Ph.D. candidate majoring in Transportation System Engineering at UC Irvine.
My research interest lies in the last mile delivery service, the final and most expensive leg in the supply chain. The mission of my study is not just maximizing the cost efficiency of the companies, but also thinking about the interests of the stakeholders in the industry. I consider Amazon drivers in our neighborhood, friends waiting for packages, restaurants delivering your food through Doordash, and the congestions on curbsides. It is fun to imagine how the delivery service will evolve in the future. I believe someday a robot will knock on your door with your food or packages, though it will take time. My role is to optimize the delivery system during the transition period.
Not to mention the classical transportation theories, I am enthusiastic to learn emerging technology from different disciplines to keep up with these innovations driven by the IT technology and interdisciplinary cooperations. I believe my programming skills, spatial statistics, and GIS (Geographic Information System) backgrounds enable me keep pursuing it.
I do not want to limit the scope of my learning as far as it is about human, city, and economy because transportation is all about the movement of people and goods after all. Luckily, I have had great advisors and competent colleagues in my graduate programs and there have been many opportunities to participate in research projects. I would like to share the achievements of my research in this website. I hope to have another fortune to communicate with you.
